Lord Nelson: Calypso Legend 🎤✨

Born in Tobago, Lord Nelson (Robert Nelson) rose from Brooklyn’s steel band scene to become a soca pioneer. Drafted into the U.S. Army, he honed his voice, blending calypso with funk under mentor Mighty Duke, birthing hits like “La La”. Crowned “Uncrowned King” at Trinidad Carnival (1989) and signed to Shanachie Records, his music conquered global stages. At 93, he still electrifies crowds, boasting a Lifetime Achievement Award and Honorary Doctorate from UWI.
